The objectives of the program To introduce students to the field of urban planning, the development of the perception of urban spaces and critical discourse; introduction to the урбоморфолошки properties, methods of analysis, and the basics of urban planning, the process of the transformation of a inner-city areas, and the spatial concepts of the creation to the present day.
Contents The winter semester: Introduction to urbanism; coexistence of historical and modern city; urban design vs planning; definition of urban space; cityscape and silhouette; public spaces; structure of built space; urbomorphological properties and morphogenesis.
The summer semester: Development and transformation of the city from pre-industrial to modern city; industrial city; theoretical concepts of the 20th century; post-war reconstruction and postmodern concepts.
Practical part: Winter semester – surveying, reconnaissance and analysis of city areas; Summer semester – introduction to urban design, analysis and redesign of city blocks.
Methods of teaching Theoretical part: verbal elaboration and illustration; Practical part: group and independent development through inductive, comparative and deductive methods; critical explication and comparative analysis of contemporary reference practices.
